1 COEdSC, 8 CEATSC candidates win elections

A total of 9 out of 46 candidates were officially elected in this year’s University Student Elections.

College of Education Student Council (COEdSC) President-elect Julius Nachor won by three votes against SENTRO-La Salle candidate Angelo Dela Cruz. Meanwhile, all eight unopposed running candidates for the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology Student Council (CEATSC) under the Sinag Political Party reached the college’s 30 percent vote of confidence (864.9 out of 2,883 voting population).

The mentioned CEATSC elected officers include Christian Cabatay as President, Melross Garcia II as Vice President, Aira Zhane Angeles as Secretary, Robert Herrera as Auditor, Angelo Salvador as Treasurer, Jeru Gaitera as Business Manager, and Lois Ann Angeles and Aljhon Cabason as Public Relations Officers.

As for the University Student Council (USC) and other College Student Council candidates, a total of 36 unopposed candidates failed to reach the vote of confidence, leaving zero elected officials in the USC, the College of Business and Administration and Accountancy Student Council, the College of Liberal Arts, the Communication Student Council, the College of Science and Computer Studies, and the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management Student Council.

However, the announcement of the snap election for USC will give the voters another chance to vote for their academic year 2017-2018 officers on May 24, and the mentioned colleges may also participate in the snap election, as per Office of Student Services (OSS) Dean, Don Malabanan.

COEd voting population

Meanwhile, COEdSC Vice Presidential candidate Mark Joseph Asoy and COEdSC candidate for Treasurer Hanz Tecson remain unelected despite the appeal of Tecson and Nachor who expressed their voting population concerns to the Student Commission on Election (SCE) yesterday evening, May 17.

“Sabi nila [Nachor and Tecson] na ‘yong CTP (Certificate in Teaching Program) [students] is under [ng] graduate studies daw. Ang nangyari kasi sa amin (SCE), naisama namin sa undergraduate,” SCE Chairperson Jessica Maestrecampo stated.

However, SCE and Office of Student Services Dean Don Malabanan confirmed with the Office of the University Registrar that the CTP students do not fall under the graduate studies and thus remain within the voting population of COEd.

“So concern nila is kungdi raw kasaliyong CTP sa undergraduate, si Hanz Tecson at Mark Asoy [ay] na-reach [na] ‘yong vote of confidence,” Maestrecampo added.

However, this was not the case and the vote of confidence was not decreased. As such, Asoy and Tecson remain unelected.
